What is an easy way to make a baby blanket?

Crocheting is pretty easy, most people think it’s easier than knitting. Then you just need to buy some soft yarn ("baby yarn") and off you go!

I want to put a decorative edge on a baby blanket i am making for a friend, but I’m not familiar with stitches other than the slip stitch and a single stitch. Any tips? Any website you can recommend?

I would recommend you do a picot edging. It’s just a series of single crochet, slip stitch, and chains. Here is a list of videos that show you how to do it:

You can make the picots as close or far apart as you want. I would recommend every three sc, but you could do every four or five too.

I would also recommend you watch these youtube videos on how to do other stitches: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=D949DB26ED937B07

Email me if you have any questions about anything. I would be happy to help.

My mother in law makes really neat blankets and I’ve asked her for ideas for my project. While I do appreciate her motives, I wanted to make the blanket myself (she insisted she just make it for me).

I would love some links showing me some neutral baby blanket ideas. My friend is waiting until birth to find out the sex of the baby.

Oh, and yes, I will have access to my mother in law’s sewing machine.

I’m not sure if you’re looking for sewing, knitting or crochet, but if you check out www.favecrafts.com you can look under any of those sections at the baby stuff. There are really neat baby blankets under knitting and crochet. Good luck!
