I just started knitting on Sunday night and for the past few days I have been practicing how to cast on, regular knitting, purl knitting and binding off. I’m 26 weeks pregnant and I want to make a baby blanket for my baby girl. Right now I have 10" needles and two 7oz worsted medium yarn, I also have two little balls of yarn to practice with. Want to find a website or somebody to tell me how to make a very easy blanket.

A baby blanket is more defined by size and material than what stitch you use, for a beginner level you might want to try a patchwork blanket where you make up little squares and sew them together. This has the advantage of feeling as though you making it a lot more quickly than say a single piece of candlelight lace knitting to size.

I would suggest using a baby weight yarn, these are usually a three or four ply.

If you want a basic lace pattern, eyelet rib is easy enough, old shale is another nice and easy stitch.

I am embroidering a baby blanket as a shower gift and want to make sure the stitching is very secure so the baby wont be able to pick the stitches out as she gets older. This is my first hand embroidered project.

Any small stitches should work for you. I would avoid large areas of satin stitch, as an older baby could easily get her fingers under the long stitches. Backstitch, cross stitch, lazy-daisy, feather or briar stitch, long-and-short–if they’re small, they should be safe. See this glossary for ideas for stitches: http://www.craftandfabriclinks.com/stitches/free_embroidery_stitches.html
