My friend will be giving birth to a baby boy in just over a month and I am planning on making a baby blanket for them. I’m wondering what size the blanket should be?

Recieving blankets are generally 28 x 28

36 x 36 is a good size for a baby as it can also be used as a nursing coverup.

36 x 45 makes a nice crib/toddler sized blanket.

I hand crochet baby blankets. I usually try to get mine just a little over 43 inches in lenght and width. I like a uniform/square look to mine. Although I’m not sure how you will be making the blanket, it’s really up to you and how you think it looks. If you make it small, then the baby will only be able to use it while it’s small, it you make it a little larger, the baby can grow into it. I made one for my nephew and luckily made it larger than I had normally been making them, he will be a year old in August and he can’t go to sleep without it. Good Luck and I hope your blanket turns out..
